Advocacy Thoughts

Be Your Own PR Rep – Teacher Tip YouTube Video Series
-
- If you don’t tell people what you’re doing know one is going to know
-
- Clips – an app we use to blur students faces and still be able to share what we do in class.
Check out how we use the Clips App HERE
-
- Anytime you share what you’re doing in class to the school newsletter or social media site is important.
-
- Make sure to share with Administration and the classroom teacher because they may want to add it to their newsletter as well.
-
- When you learn something new, ask students to challenge their parents or siblings at home. This gets students moving at home and sharing what they did in class.
-
- The best at it is Mike Graham – Check out his site PE4EveryKid for cool ideas. Specifically, his “This Week in PE” where he breaks down what he is doing each week.
Scope and Sequence: How often should you switch it up?
-
- The rotation of activities is based on student interest and what equipment you have.
-
- There are consistent activities we do each year and we rotate activities from year to year to allow students a chance to experience new opportunities.
-
- Students do not get tired of the same activities.

How to stay organized
-
- Keep papers IEP, 504’s accommodation in reach for easy access.
-
- Structure your drives and folders in a way you can easily find what you need.
-
- Having a clear bin to see the documents you need helps to keep you organized.
-
- Start at the beginning of the year working through the large stack of paperwork so you stay organized throughout the year.
-
- Building relationships and knowing your students helps to keep you organized because you will already know what accommodation the student needs.
-
- Summarize the accommodation needed for the students on your roster for quick reference. Check out an example of Daily Rosters.
-
- Place a copy of your accommodation in your Sub Folder. Lesson plans in one sleeve of the folder, accommodations in the other sleeve.

Hula Huts – What a disaster?
-
- Building hula huts are harder with different size hula hoops.

Keeping Lessons Fun
-
- There is always going to be those students who need a little more love and care.
-
- If a student says they don’t like the activity, ask them why they don’t like the game. This will hopefully give you some insight as to why they are resistant to the lesson.
-
- Always relate the activities back to the “why”. Relate the content you’re teaching to the interest of the students.
-
- Your delivery and the way you present the activities is important as well. If students see you’re excited about the activity, they will be too.
Tracking Notes and Lesson Progress
-
- You can use your Daily Rosters sheet to keep track of student progression, skill level, growth, behavior.
-
- Make notes of how far students were able to go in the lesson. You can also make notes in your lesson plans to track progress as well.
-
- Be kind to your future self by making notes about yearly events (picture day, fundraisers, holidays)
