What’s up Phys Ed Friends!
I’m super pumped to introduce this incredible little app to you today. If you’ve been a reader on this site for a while, you know I LOVE making videos to show off what my kids are doing in PE, previously I’ve discussed how to make iMovie Trailers to advocate for your PE Program.
I still use iMovie for that purpose, but I’ve switched to using CLIPS for almost any social media sharing post. The main reason I love it so much is because it’s a simple and easy to use app and has a great filter that blurs out student’s faces so you don’t have to worry about privacy issues, but can still share a visual of the awesome things you’re doing in PE Class.
Over the last year, whenever I posted videos of my kids playing in the gym using this app and we receive tons of questions about how to do it. So to all my friends who are interested in trying this tool in your videos, this is for you.
How to use the Clips App in PE Class
The tutorial below is one of the lessons I created for the E-Course “My Favorite Apps for Teaching Phys ED” it’s available in PE Central’s PD library and also in our Membership Program (more info here).
Recent Update:
Since I made this tutorial – Clips came out with a Update that includes a Widescreen option, so you can now make widescreen videos for Youtube or Square videos for other platforms – Awesome News!
Check out the video below for a walkthrough of the Clips App and some examples of how I use it:
Let’s Recap
The app that I used is called Clips, which you can get from iTunes and the best part – IT’S FREE! (Check it out on iTunes)
- It is free to download and it’s available on iOS only.
- It’s simple to use and great for social media use.
- You can shoot new photos or videos using the app, or upload media from your existing iPhone or iPad library.
- Want to spice it up? You can add text, filters, overlays, emoji, and “posters”
- You can also add music, or other instrumental music tracks curated just for the Clips app
So as you can see… This is pretty much the perfect app to use to share videos on social media or anywhere on the internet!
ADVOCATE: Share What You Do!
Why is this important – well it’s one of the best ways to advocate for your program and help people understand that you are actually teaching students important and useful skills and not just rolling out a ball everyday or giving them an extra recess. It’s also a great way to help other #Physed Teachers by sharing knowledge and practical activities that they can then use to improve their own PE program, so Pay it Forward 🙂
I try to share videos regularly to my Classroom Teachers and Administrators in hopes that they will then share them with parents and to let them know what’s going on in our PE Classes.
That’s It!
So that is Clips, a fun video sharing app. Hope it’s useful for you and I hope you like it. It’s free so you might as well try it out. Have an awesome day!
If it’s your first time using Clips tag us next time on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook!
We’d love to see the cool things you’re doing with your students!

Do you use Plickers for the younger K-2 graders? If not…how would you assess them? Thanks!
Ben Landers says
You can and I know some that do, but I don’t do Plickers with K-2.
For a few examples check out our resources page and look for “Locomotor License Assessment” and “Basketball Cues Knowledge Assessment” also “Daily Self Assessment”
Other ideas:

Thank you so much for sharing! I have wanted to start something like this but have been worried about posting students. I love that this app will blurry out the students! I am excited to try this coming school year.
Thanks,
