What’s up PE Fam!
In this post I wanted to show you 5 of my favorite striking with implements station activities for PE Class.
This lesson was part of my Striking with Implements Unit and I used it to give my Kindergarten – 2nd grade students a variety of different experiences trying out different sport skills that involved striking with implements.
I’ll walk you through each station and show you a video example of each one below
Balloon Hockey
I’ve always been scared to teach floor hockey after hearing so many horror stories from other teachers about kids getting injured, but Balloon Hockey is another story.
This is one of the fun and safe ways I’ve found to modify the game with a noodle and balloon and take all of the possibility of injury away from students, but give them a chance to practice a similar skill.
Check out the other station activities in the videos below…
Bump Up Challenge
This might look familiar if you’ve already seen my striking with balloons lesson, which works on a similar skill of bumping up balloons with different types of equipment.

Partner T-Ball
This is a fun activity to work on batting and fielding skills with a partner, since my students have done a similar activity in a previous lesson this was a way for them to review the skills independently and work on Batting and Fielding Skills more independently while working with a partner.
I have batting Tee’s, but you can also just have kids hit off cones if you don’t have Tees.
Students will partner up and practice their hitting and fielding while rotating after each hit, the goal being for the batter to hit the ball past their fielder to the wall while the fielder’s goal is to stop the ball before it touches the wall.
P.S. Here are my Batting Cues if you’re interested
Balloon Tennis
This is one of my favorites for sure and a station activity that I set up for the students a few times a year, it’s so much fun and the kids love it.
I like how it teaches them some of the most basic elements of net games and requires very little skill since the balloon slows the game down so much
We just play on the 4 Square courts which are 15 ft x 15 ft and use bungees to put up a net across the middle of the square.

Balloon Tennis Rules:
- You only have 3 hits to get it back over the net
- Keep the balloon inside the boundary lines
- Don’t let the balloon hit the ground on your side of the square
You are out if:
- You use more than 3 hits
- You hit the balloon out of bounds
- The balloon touches the ground on your side of the square
Once a point is scored, the winner stays and the next player rotates onto the court.
If you have a large class size, I would recommend having enough courts so you only have 4-6 students at each court
Putt Putt Station
Who doesn’t love playing a good game of putt putt?
This is one of those stations that I wish I had more time to setup and my imagination is always running wild with ideas on how to create a cool putt putt course for kids to try out, but since I only do this activity with K-2nd and I have to clean up my gym each day for our afterschool program, I normally don’t go too crazy with the setup (as you can see from the video)
It just gives kids an opportunity to try out putting and to compete with their friends in a game if they want to.
SAFETY NOTE: It’s always important to remind kids to keep the putter on the ground and not to swing it like a hockey stick or baseball bat so nobody gets hurt
The putting set I have is a cheaper 6 pack set that I only use a few times a year as a station activity, if you don’t have any putting equipment a great option is to contact your local golf club to see if they might donate some to your school.
