What’s up Phys Ed Family!
Over the last 10 years I’ve started to accumulate quite a few posters and graphics on the walls of my gym.
Today I wanted to give you a full tour of everything on my gym walls!
I hope you find it helpful and interesting, links to all posters in the video are also provided below.
To see the PE Poster Tour check out video below:
Below you’ll find links and a quick description of each poster in my gym – Enjoy!
The Good Sport Code (*updated since the video tour)
I like to use this at the beginning of the year before we start playing games. It helps to remind students about the importance of good sportsmanship and it is there if needed for reminders during a lesson.
If a class is struggling with sportsmanship during the activity, I stop the game bring the students over and we repeat the good sportsmanship code “pledge of allegiance” style.
For a video example of what this looks like in action and to download the poster you can GO HERE.
Rules and Consequences
I have two sizes of this poster. A larger size for everyone to see by the door as they walk in, and a smaller version posted in front of students at their home base spot.
I already had these rules established but I added to the categories (Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Respect This Place) after seeing Joey Feith explain how he splits up his class expectations into 3 similar categories. I really liked the idea and how my rules already fit into them nicely. Thanks Joey!
Bathroom and water fountain posters are above the water fountain and on the bathroom doors. These give students a reminder of when they can use the restroom and water.
My management strategy is normally to play music anytime I am not giving instructions, so that makes the rule really simple.
Basically, when the music is on and we are playing a game student’s can go to the bathroom any time they want without asking.
You can download my PE Rules and Bathroom Posters below:
PE Values Poster
At the end of each school year, I give the 4th and 5th grade students an end of the year survey asking them for feedback and advice on what they’ve learned and how to improve the program.
This poster is a compilation of all their tips for future students about how to be successful in PE class and get the most out of the time they spend in the gym.
You can make our own poster using Wordle.com or you can get my PE Values Poster Pack along with 15 awesome additional variations of the poster on TPT HERE
Fitness Hall of Fame
This poster is an accumulation of the fitness test records at my school from the past seven years. I have kept track of the highest scores from the Pacer, Curl up, Push up, Sit and Reach, Mile Run.
I’ve also started doing a yearly records poster because it gives more opportunities to spotlight more kids and make the Hall of Fame, it’s also just interesting to see the top scores from each year for reference.
More details here on How I do Fitness Testing and also 4 Tips to Keep Fitnessgram Fun.
Also related (and not included in the video because it was a more recent design), is our Components of Health Related Fitness Poster and Daily Warmup Poster.
5 Components of Fitness Poster
This is a newer poster I use in my Fitness Unit (Not included in the Tour Video Above)
It’s available in our membership or here on TPT.
You can see how I use it to go over the components of fitness in the video below:
Do Your Best Forget the Rest
This is a recent poster (not pictured in the video), but I love it because it’s something I say hundreds of times a day.
This little phrase, pretty much encompasses my life motto and one of the big principles I try to hit in my PE program, which is to help students understand that if you focus on effort over results then you are focused on what you can control, and not distracted by what you can’t. I hope kids understand this concept by the time they leave my program and head off to Middle School.
You can get the Poster on TPT Here
Teamwork Balances Poster
This is poster I created from the task cards in the Balance It E-book created by The PE Geek, Jarrod Robinson. You can either download the E-book or buy the App in the iTunes App Store. I use this poster during my Gymnastics Unit.
If you have the Balance It App, you can screenshot the balances and create a poster from there with the one’s you want to use.
In the past, I used to take the poster down each year and tape it back up for the gymnastics unit but the students in the after school program like to practice the balances so now I just leave it up year round.
Conflict Corner
This is one of my most popular free downloads. It’s a behavior management strategy that I use to help students learn to take responsibility for putting some effort into solving their own problems before asking for help.
It’s designed to eliminate tattle-telling from your class and teach important conflict resolution skills to students.
You can see how I explain it to students and download it HERE
National PE Standards (Kid Friendly)
This poster summarizes all of the national standards with simple kid friendly language that students can understand.
It helps to give them (and me) a visual of what we are trying to teach them and what the goal of our program is.
You can download my poster below and check out SHAPE America, Mike or Joey’s Resources as well.
SHAPE America’s Kid Friendly Standards Poster
Mike Ginicola’s One Page Poster’s
On the Bench in PE Worksheet
This is my system for communicating with parents when students forget tennis shoes, get injured or go to time out.
You can get more details and download the form HERE
Cap’n Pete’s PE Posters
Pete Charrette has made more posters than I can count.
His TPT store is a valuable poster and infographic resources for PE teachers.
He has created a ton of material to help teachers and students visualize the key components of PE and illustrate different points.
The posters I have on my wall are:
Nathan Horne’s 4 R’s Poster
This poster is a great teaching illustration to spark some discussion with your students when playing invasion games.
Read, Respond, React, Recover.
Four key components students need to be cycling through their brains while trying to be successful in invasion games.
You can download it on Nathan’s Site HERE
One Page Workout Posters
Kid friendly “crossfit” type workouts where students perform different exercise and see how many rounds they can get through in a specific time limit.
Just put on a timer, students can choose their workout and they can perform the exercises at their own pace.
Here’s a link to more info on my One Page Workout and 25 Exercise Poster Bundle or you can download it below
Mr. C’s Superhero Workouts
AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) style one page workouts with a superhero theme
Jump Rope Tricks Chart
I use these during our Jump Rope Unit.
The posters give students (and me) a framework for learning different tricks throughout the unit and are divided into different categories of Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.
Self Assessment Posters
Every time students leave the gym they self assess their performance for that class.
I want students to take responsibility for their learning, how they performed in class and reflect on whether or not they met the class expectations.
This process also gives me a visual on how each student feels about their performance.
I would also like to add a rubric for each level so students have a clear and visual expectations for their self assessment.
You can get more info and download the Self Assessment HERE
25 Single Balances Poster
This is a visual I created to give students some simple single balances to try and perform during our gymnastics unit.
You can download it at the bottom of my gymnastics unit overview here
Rock Wall Challenges
Self challenge poster of different difficulty routes students can perform going across the rock wall.
Each level has a specific colored hold students can try to use.
This allows students to challenge themselves and makes the rock wall a good tool for any skill level.
Home Base Spots
This is my assigned seating strategy for PE class.
I have students go to their Home Base Spot when I need to take attendance, do stretches or make announcements.
You can get more details on this process and download the Home Base Spots here.
Locomotor Movements Posters (Updated since the video)
These posters were updated since the video and have been re-designed to be more colorful and provide visuals of each movement.
You can see details and an overview of the Posters here, which are a part of our Locomotor Resource Pack
Critical Cues Poster Series
These posters remind students (and myself) of the critical cues and features that I want them to remember throughout different units of instruction.
Currently, the posters I’ve created include throwing and catching cues, basketball cues, soccer cues, frisbee cues, Spikeball, Striking with Paddles and jump rope tricks.
I like how these posters give students main ideas that they need to understand throughout each unit.
Feel free to use my cues and create your own posters, or you can purchase them below if you like the posters I’ve created.
Writing this post actually motivated me to redesign all the cues posters to look way cooler and offer them for purchase.
You can purchase them below if you’d like (It’s also available inside the PE Specialist Membership Area for any members). Members can login here, more info on the membership HERE if you’re interested.

Good Morning,
I am looking for a poster that says something about being
a good sport, its just a game….ect.. I thought I saw one or heard you talking about one on your podcast. Could you share that or tell me where I could find one.
Thanks for all your help,
Renee French
Marcus says
Sure thing Renee,

Tyler says
I noticed in one of your videos you have several areas of butcher paper on the walls with kids handwriting on them. Just curious, what is on them?
Marcus says
Hey Tyler,
Those our Jump Rope Endurance Club students names on the wall.
You can see how teach the Endurance Club at the link below:

Hope this helps!
Julie says
What kind of tape do you use to keep posters on the gym walls?
Marcus says
Hey Julie,
We use hot glue to keep the posters on the wall. I’ve heard hot glue and tape works well to because sometimes just one by themselves can cause the poster to fall over time.
Hope this helps!
Julie says
Are you just using tape to keep posters on the gym walls? Do you have issues with them getting knocked down. We have middle school volleyball and basketball games that are played in the gym so I’m concerned about them being knocked down.
Marcus says
Hey Julie!
We use hot glue to stick them to the walls. They hold up pretty well but sometimes they need a touch up.
I’ve also heard using a combination of masking tape and hot glue holds up better.
Hope this helps!
Ryann Turner says
I love your posters! I have been trying to download a few to be able to have them for my gym, but the buttons with the links don’t seem to be working. Not sure if it’s just me or something with your site.
Marcus says
Hey Ryann,
Thanks for reaching out! Glad you’re enjoying the resources!
Sorry about the issue! We gave the buttons a test run and they seem to be working for us. If you want to screenshot or record with issues you are having and email it to us at [email protected] we can get our tech team to take a look at it.
Usually, this issue is related to a school filter, pop-up blocker, or browser caching issue – so we’d recommend trying from another computer, switching browsers, clearing your cache and making sure all pop up blockers have been turned off.
As a another option you can also find some of our products on our Teachers Pay Teachers Page Here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Pe-Specialist
Makaylin Martinez says
Hi there,
I absolutely love your ideas on what to put on the wall. My gym is pretty empty right now and I think some of these would be a great addition. I love that the ideas are not just physical but also social/emotional as well.
Marcus says
Hey Makaylin!
Thanks for reaching out!
Glad you’re enjoying the resources! The wall is a great space to motivate students!
Take care!
Karen Coleman says
Thanks so much for the great ideas and freebies ! Keep the emails coming, I learn something every time to incorporate into my pe program.
Marcus says
You’re welcome Karen! Glad you’re enjoying the resources!
Kristina says
Hi Ben
I really like the critical cues poster pack. Are the posters the same size as the ones you have up on your gym wall in your videos? I can’t seem to find the dimensions and I noticed on TpT that it’s a digital download (which doesn’t allow me to print poster size from my printer).
Thanks!
Kristina
Marcus Nellems says
Hey Kristina,
We designed all of our Posters to be 24 in x 36 in, which is a standard poster size and what most poster printers are designed to print at.
Depending on what type of printer you’re using you should be able to resize the PDF or JPEG whichever file format you’re using to fit the dimensions of the printer.
Some printer services will require that you have permission to print any copyrighted posters or materials.
Please print a permission letter by clicking the link below to download a PDF giving printing permissions.

Hope this helps!
Chad says
How did you create your Fitness Hall of Fame poster, as I am interested in doing one for our school. Thanks
Marcus Nellems says
Hey Chad,
There are lots of ways to create posters. The ones we use often are canva.com and Google Draw. You can also create a poster from a Google Doc or Slide.
Hope this helps!
Josie Harley says
Hello,
I am trying to purchase the PE Poster pack for $10 but it just keeps spinning and not allowing me to do so. Is there another link where I could buy it?
Thank you!!
Marcus Nellems says
Hey Josie,
Sorry for the issue!
We’ve included a link below for your download – Thanks for the Purchase!

I am a first time P.E. teacher. I really love all of your resources. I was downloading a lot of freebies, but then I saw you had the poster pack for sale. I went ahead and purchased it and the National Standards pack. My hope was that I could get the posters already made and I wouldn’t have to figure out how to do that for myself. I see now that I still need to print my own. I don’t understand how to go get the larger ones printed. Could you help, please? Thanks!

Ben Landers says
Nope – as it says in the post above, you can login and access them in the member forums.
If you have an issue finding them you can use the search bar or just post in the forum and we can provide a link for you.
Rick says
Where did you go to make the posters bigger?
Ben Landers says
We are really lucky and have a Poster Maker at my school. You can go to Kinkos, Office Max or another printing company near your school if you don’t have the ability to make one at school
Cathy says
What size are the posters? I am trying to upload to Vista print to make them?
Ben Landers says
We designed all of our Posters to be 24 in x 36 in, which is a standard poster size and what most poster printers are designed to print at.
However, you can print them at whatever size works for you, but if you go bigger than 24 x 36 you might see some lack in clarity.
michelle says
How long do your poster usually stay up before they fall down or get knocked down?
Ben Landers says
I use heavy duty hot glue so usually pretty good, but I hit a few corners on random posters about every 2 months.
Most of the wear comes from the afterschool program 🙂
michelle says
Yes, that’s my problem. The after school is so hard on anything i hang up, they even pick at the spots i have on the floor for personal space. I wish I knew how to fix the problem.
Michelle
Annie says
When you use hot glue…does that come off the wall easily if you need?
Ben Landers says
We have a razor blade scraper on a long broom handle that works really well, we just borrow it from our custodian. But usually if I put a poster up, it stays up.
