What’s Up Phys Ed Friends!
I have a great ice breaker or team building game to share with you today.
This activity is great for the First Week of School, but you can use it at any time of the year or just about any class, from 3rd grade and up (even adults!).
The goal of this activity is simply is to “break the ice” in your class. It helps your students get to know each other, make connections and have fun in completing challenges.
This is one of those games that I always play at the beginning of the school year (along with Adventure Bingo and Hula Hut Relays)
Each challenge card has silly instructions or challenges that the students must work together to complete.
It is very simple and super fun and is a sure way to get some laughs and a positive energy going in your class.
To get an idea of how the game works, check out the video clip below from a recent Phys Ed Conference I presented at:
As you can see it’s a super simple and fun game that is a blast for everyone involved.
You can create your own cards, or if you’d like to save some time and purchase our Crazy Cards Deck and Lesson Plan Click the Link Below:
Check Out the Crazy Cards Challenge Resource
Steps to Play the Game:
- Arrange the cards in the middle of the room, all face down
- Ask the group to form a circle around the cards
- Explain the rules that when the music starts students will pick any card and perform the challenge on the card as quickly as possible
- Once done, bring the card back to the teacher and pick another card.
- You can allow a “redo” if you want for students who might be uncomfortable doing a card
- Students should help others finish their cards if there are no more cards remaining on the ground
- The game is timed. You will start the time at the beginning, and when all the cards have been returned, the timer will stop.
You can spice it up by doing a Grade Level Competition to see which class can complete the cards in the shortest amount of time.
You can also have the class attempt to beat their own time by allowing them to try the game again if there’s enough class time left.
Hope that was helpful, thanks for checking it out and as always…
Have Fun and Teach On!

Couldn’t purchase the Crazy cards. I tried to click Add and nothing.
Can you help?
Marcus says
Hey Georgina!
Sorry about the issue!
Usually, this issue is related to a school filter, pop-up blocker, or browser caching issue – so we’d recommend trying from another computer, switching browsers, clearing your cache and making sure all pop up blockers have been turned off.
We have linked the Crazy Cards Challenge on Teachers Pay Teachers below:

I’m a first year teacher and LOVE the idea of this game. Just purchased it to use the first week of class. However, as a first year teacher, I’m not sure how this would work out for the younger kids. Would you say this game is appropriate for 3-5 graders?
Marcus says
Hey McKenzie,
Thanks for reaching out and good luck on your journey as a PE teacher! You’re going to crush it!
Crazy Cards Challenge is a great game for 3rd – 5th! You may need to modify some of the activities and help students who may need help reading some of the cards but all students love the activity!
Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions along the way!

Do you sell any of your stuff? I love this game! Do you sell the cards that you and your wife created?

We have up to 75 – Kinders, 55 – 1st graders, and 75 2nd-4th graders in the MPR at a time. How many cards are in a set? How many card sets would you use with groups this large. I’m thinking about making my own cards, because some of the challenges on the cards you and your wife came up with won’t work in our confind space.
Thanks, and I love your resources!
Ben Landers says
Hey Kathleen! That’s a huge group.
I use 1 deck for every 20-25 kids. So for the group of 75 I would use 3 decks.
Also – since Kinder-1st can’t read very well I normally just play with 3-5th.
Mary C Aparicio says
Do you have a list of the Crazy Card Challenge questions?
Thank you!
Ben Landers says
Nope sorry – you can see all the questions on the cards though
